The Rest, Only Noise: Chapter 21 Reign of Chaos
Louie's life was made difficult by the repeated defeats of Thatch Sanders.
He was in charge of creating the game plan, and although his plan was agreed upon by both assistant coaches, analytically speaking, he wasn't wrong, but the Celtics couldn't execute his plan.
The streak of defeats has led to a voice within the team: "Why do we keep losing? Because we keep playing the kid's way!"
This puts a lot of pressure on Louie, who realizes he has to come up with a game plan that works for this group.
Therefore, the game plan should not only consider the opponent, but also the own players.
The Celtics have a complex mix of players, and only two players can be sure they belong in the franchise's future.
Mr. "Cornbread" and John Long.
Cowens was one of the guys who got the Celtics back in the '70s, and he still has gas in the tank, but he's already disillusioned with the team.
Since Paul Silas was sent away for wanting market value, he no longer believes in team loyalty to players. This is a devastating blow to what he depends on on the court for a living - passion.
"Elf" Archibald seems to have been a long time ago. Last season, he averaged 20+7 assists per game with the New York Nets. When he came to the Celtics, he suddenly seemed to be abolished, and he averaged 20 per game per game. Time is only 24 minutes, scored 11 points and 4.7 assists.
The only thing Marvin Barnes, the "bad news" who destroyed the Celtics' glory, came to the team was to do what he did and destroy the team's chemistry.
Not to mention the numerous crimes of this gentleman, just say that he delayed the reason given by the team's flight.
He said he didn't want to get into a time machine.
He likened the plane to a time machine.
In the past, he rented a private jet to go away, but he had a bad experience, so he wanted to default on the debt. He was forced to settle the bill when people came to the door with the bill.
At the ABA, he was like the opposite of Dr. J, representing all the negativity.
With such talent on the team, it's very difficult for the Celtics to have a good record.
After a disastrous 2-12, Sanders was fired by Auerbach.
Louie's brief career as a coaching assistant is over.
His game plan has been unanimously criticized by the players, who think that he treats the big guys like high school students and requires them to cooperate strictly and delicately. Also, the movement on the perimeter is too frequent, so they refuse to execute the game plan, which is also an important reason why the Celtics keep losing.
Sanders is an unstoppable coach.
When Louie was attacked by the players, he swallowed his anger, did not warn the players loudly, did not let them run tactics properly, just acted as a peacemaker, which would only make the players gain an inch.
When Louis was frustrated, Auerbach sensed the seriousness of the situation. He asked two assistant coaches, including Saunders' old teammate K.C. Jones, that Saunders was unfit to continue coaching.
"If it goes on like this, the kid will be driven crazy by these bastards." K.C was very worried about Louis.
Auerbach cut the mess quickly and dismissed Sanders.
Sanders has pulled the record to the bottom, and everyone agrees that the Celtics are hopeless this season. Since there is no hope, does it make any difference who will coach?
In order to save money, Auerbach approached Cowens and wanted him to be a coach.
It's not like Bill Russell, who worked two jobs and paid two wages. Cowens has only one salary.
Instead of letting other coaches torture you, torture others yourself.
Cowens accepted the job.
Cowens' leadership had immediate results.
Although his original intention was to torture others by himself, if he could pursue victory, he would naturally not surrender victory.
Under Cowens, the Celtics won their first two games. They have won 11 of their first 19 games under Cowans.
Cowens' record embarrassed Sanders, also using Louie's game plan, Cowens achieved a staged success, and he fell flat.
Louie is no longer the team's assistant coach, but Cowens still asked him for a game plan.
Instead of being as refined as he used to be, Louie is bluntly pointing out the opponent's problems, and Celtic's own problems.
Cowens to do is to avoid weaknesses.
But they counted everything, but they couldn't count the "bad news" with someone as passionate as Cowens, the duration of their fighting spirit could be so short.
Barnes suddenly lost his fighting spirit, singing every night.
On road trips, he throws parties in his hotel room every night, and the music is always blaring from night to dawn. This affected his rest, and he was often unable to leave on time with the team bus.
This away lifestyle has not only affected his performance on the pitch, but it has also cost the team dearly. Barnes credits the team with spending on parties and entertaining musicians.
This season, he missed 10 games due to various injuries that could not be reasonably explained and without team medical coverage.
In a February game, Archibald couldn't take it any longer, accusing Barnes of burying his head in a towel and taking drugs during the game.
Finally, the hot-tempered Cowens had a fight with Barnes outside the airport on his way to the road.
Cowens won the game, suspended Barnes for three games as coach, and asked Auerbach to kick the man out of the team.
The only person who objected to this was owner Brown, who had previously asked to bring Barnes from Brofa, also Brown. Because he can always think of Barnes's wonderful performance in the ABA. In the end, Brown was no match for the will of the team, and UU agreed to fire Barnes. The Celtics will also pay the remainder of the season, but the contract for the next two years is void.
As a result, the players' guild took the Celtics to court because their actions were illegal...
And that's not even the most chaotic time for the Celtics this season.
When John Long and Maurice Cheeks each had a fantastic rookie season, Louie's vision was confirmed, and, with his game plan well-done, age was no longer an issue.
In less than half a year, he was promoted from a junior scout to a senior scout.
Salary also increased to $5,000 a month.
Earning $5,000 a month means a lot in this day and age when the median American household income is only $9,600 a year.
Louie was forced to experience the life of a coaching staff, exhausting him but also making him interested in coaching.
This is territory he has never touched before, and when Cowens wins through his game plan, the thrill he gets is like a climax, so refreshing.
He began to read some basic introductory books intentionally.
But the most important thing right now is to get Laimbeer's scouting report. If he was in charge, he wouldn't care about the report at all, just mindless selection. But now, he'll have to convince the team to pick a white big man that nobody likes, which requires not just rhetoric but a persuasive report.
How to make a dry scouting report as wet as a pregnant woman takes hard work.
Detailed reports, evaluations by college coaches, psychoanalysis, rigorous potential anatomy and future projections.
He wanted to make everyone speechless, unable to say a word of rebuttal, and chose Ranbir unconditionally.
